Organization that helps people w cats?

Would any one here, know of an organization that helps people in financial difficulty, care for their cats?

I am trying to help someone whose greatest fear is to not be able to provide for her cats. If she knew such a organization existed it might help to relieve some of her anxiety during a rough time.

Thanks for any info.

    Hi Leslee,

I would check out PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support). The web site is www.pawssf.org/

PAWS is an organization in San Francisco which supports people (usually SF residents) with HIV and other disabling illnesses to take care of their pets. This includes:

    • Animal food and litter
    • Subsidized veterinary care
    • In-home animal care; dog walking, litter box changing
    • Transportation of animal to/from vet or groomer
    • Foster care
    • Yearly groomings
•Counseling and advocacy services for disabled pet guardians having housing difficulties as a result of their pet/s.
    •Education
    • Direct client services provided by volunteers: dog walking, in-home cat care, animal fostering, food delivery to home clients, staffing of our weekly food bank, transporting animals to vets and groomers, offering veterinary and grooming services.

I have no idea what your friend's situation is, but this is a good resource and they might be able to provide her with information about where she lives/what she can do to feel better.

    Hope that helps!

An option may be to temporarily foster out the pet(s) until financial situation improves.

I'd check with the cat rescue organizations in that area and see if they can arrange a temporary home and allow the owner to contribute and visit.
