One of my cats vomits almost every day immediately after eating. It doesn't seem to be a hairball, and otherwise he seems fine. Does that sound weird? I mentioned it to the vet a while ago but I don't think I stressed it was every day and she didn't seem concerned.

Re: Vomiting
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 7:26 AMYeah, it could be something to be concerned about. It could also be that he's eating too fast. I have a cat that will sometimes do that. Try slowing him down first to see if that helps. A good way to slow a cat down eating is to place a golf ball in his bowl with his food. He has to eat around it, slowing him down. If he's still vomiting take him to the vet.

Re: Vomiting
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 7:47 AMI was having a semi-regular problems with this. Geez, some days it looked like the exorcist visited the family room. A few months ago, I switched my 15ya Russian Blue from Purina One to Trader Joe's dry cat food. They have a holistic variety and an all-natural that comes in a blue bag. Since then, she hasn't puked once and doesn't roam around the house being noisy at 4am. The ingredients on the commercially available cat foods reads like a home chemistry kit. -

Re: Vomiting
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 7:50 AMYes, I forgot to ask what food the vomiting cat is eating. The ingredients in "Grocery Store" foods can cause stomach upset (among other serious problems). -

Re: Vomiting
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 7:55 PMThey eat the Dick Van Patton dry (I can never remember the name... natural something) and occasionally, Merrick canned food. It's all the good stuff.
Archie does eat fast. For a while I was doling out the food in tiny doses, but it took so long. I might try the golf ball idea. -

Re: Vomiting
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 11:21 PMI've had that problem with my cat all her 13 years. One thing that helped was slowing her down for sure, which I just did by giving her little bits at a time instead of filling her bowl. Now she is totally in the habit of snacking. She never eats more than a couple bites at a time no matter how much food is in her bowl. Also, I switched her first a couple years ago to Eukaneuba Sensitive Stomach and that cut down on her vomiting. Then at the beginning of this year I switched her to Innova Evo and the vomiting is less frequent than ever. Hardly ever these days.
There's always the possibility that it's a symptom of something, but it is't uncommon for a kitty to just have a sensitive stomach.

Re: Vomiting
Tue, October 16, 2007 - 3:15 AMAre there other cats in the house competing for the same food? They'll do that sometimes, even if you put tons of it out. -

Re: Vomiting
Tue, October 16, 2007 - 6:46 AMThere's one other cat who is content to wait until Archie is done dong whatever he wants. He lets Archie push him out of the cat bed & everything.

Thu, October 18, 2007 - 10:12 PMI didn't have a golf ball but I put two rocks in the bowl a couple of days ago & so far they might be working! Turns out they make a dog bowls with knob things in them for just this purpose. I might get one. www.brake-fast.net/

Re: Vomiting
Thu, October 25, 2007 - 7:55 PMmy guy will do the barf fest mostly when something has upset him....he'll come home, wolf down a big bunch of kibble, and barf it up.
i use a sensitive systems kibble (he also gets wet food....trying to get him to raw food, but it's taking time) and i also let him have catnip, which for him mellows him out a lot (it also settles the stomach).
what usually upsets my guy? either anti-cat people or an altercation with a mean cat or other animal (usually dog who thinks, yeah, chasing cats is a GOOD thing.....geez!)
