my kitty Zeus is recently deaf due to old age...he mopes around and meows loudly in empty rooms...and it makes me sad :(
I think he does this to hear his voice in his head.

anyone else have a deaf cat?
is there anything i can do?

I've been tapping my foot on the floor to get his attention, or the couch or table...or where ever he's laying down because calling him doesn't work anymore.

Hmm - I've never had a deaf cat, but my sweet Ray was born blind and we had to be really careful with him. Basically I would recommend that you keep making your noises for him. Cats are incredibly adept to new situations and I think that as long as he knows you are still there for him he will continue to improve on his new situation. Keep making those noises, maybe keep them around the same time and place to call him for meals and such. Of course loving him extra can't hurt either, this is just a transition phase for him. Once he sees that you guys can still communicate, maybe he will feel better about the whole thing. That's what I think anyway, Im sure there are others out there with some more helpful advice. Good luck and let us know how he's coming along. Go Zeus!

Perhaps when snuggling you could hum or vocalize somehow, like cheek to fur. That way he could 'hear' the vibrations of your voice.
