Cat urinating all over the house

topic posted Fri, December 14, 2007 - 9:04 AM by  Sha'
For the first time since Stimpy's sex change, he is having urinary issues. For the past 2 nights he has urinated on every floor in the house. Not crystals or blood and no urgency or blockages? He is on a 100% raw meat diet and has been for many years. Yes, we have had much stress in the house lately but not unlike the entire past year. Anyone have anything to help me? I really don't want to have to take him to the vet. He is a little tiger and attacks the vet and tech. I am going to try a tea mixture that I used when working for a homeopathic vet. Anything else anyone has to offer, I'll try. If it gets worse, I'll take him to the cat hospital and have him mess the Doc up right. That tends to stress him even more though. Help. My mind is over loaded and I can't think properly at the moment.

How many cats are in the house and how many litterboxes? Also, what type of litter boxes and what type of litter?

It is important before dealing with urination behavior to make sure that it's not a physical problem first. Taking him to the vet is really the best thing to do first.

There is one other cat in the house and we have one litter box using clay littler. They don't like the scoopable kind. I change the box every other day. He seems to be feeling/doing better now. I gave him more water in his raw meat and added a homeopathic remedy along with a supplement for urinary support. I will take him to the vet Monday if he isn't any better. I did do a few strip urine tests and they were not showing blood and all were wnl then I did specific gravity and it looked normal as well? I have been stressed and maybe he is as well. I really don't want to take him to the vet since he really stresses out then. I may see if the homeopathic vet could do an out call. If you have any ideas, please feel free to let me know.

Your cat had a sex change?
    No wonder he's urinating everywhere!
How did you figure out that she wanted to be a he?

The vet made the call on the sex change. He hasn't had any issues since the sx until now. He is much better now. Usually when kidney failure is an issue, don't they increase water intake? I have only seen Stimpy drink water a handfull of times in his entire life. I still don't see him drinking any water. He eats a raw diet? Now that he is calmed down, I'll get him to the vet for blood work from both him and the poor vet. Thanks for the help from you all!

My Felicity also suffered kidney failure (along with diabetes) and was tinkling all over the house. But it was only a few drops each time. Not even enough to actually soak into the carpet. And she was constantly begging for more food and drinking lots.

I still don't get the reference to a cat having a sex change... do you mean spaying or neutering? (I'm so lost here...)

sounds like Stimpy was neutered and began to have bladder control or some other urinary issues shortly after neutering. It was never established what might have caused the problem for Stimpy. It might have something to do with the neutering or it might not... it is impossible to tell from the posts about Stimpy. But from all the other cat owners in this tribe it seems like most of us experience no trouble with neutering, so...

I wouldn't worry about it if I was thinking about neutering a new cat.

About 8 years ago Stimpy started blocking up urinary wise. After several thousand dollars and much pain for him we took him to a surgeon. The surgeons thought the best chance Stimpy had was to re route his little urethra and basically make him into a female. He was neutered back in 1994 and had no issues until 2000. He had a great run of no issues but when he got sick, he really got sick. He isn’t very nice to vets or the tech or me for that matter. He had been thru so very much over his little life and I just hoped he wouldn’t have any further illness. Today he is doing very well. The vet thinks he got into the dogs home prepared food and that kicked off the urinary issues once again. He is to ONLY have raw meat and supplements from here on out. My animals eat better than I do! LOL. I am so happy he is doing fine now! Thanks for all the info and support!
