My cats are finicky wet food eaters and they loved Nutro Max but that has been recalled. But I tried TIki Cat cat food and they chowed down on the food. But I noticed they only make seafood wet food and a lot of it is tuna. Would feeding them this cat food daily be bad? The website says there cats been eating Tiki Cat for a few years and the cats are thriving. But I hear from you guys that tuna isn't good for cats.
Here is their website if anyone wants to check out the food
www.petropics.com/default2.htm
if you scroll to the bottom it links to their products.
Thanks for any info.

Re: tiki cat cat food
Sat, June 9, 2007 - 3:17 PMUsually cat food with Tuna in it is better because it has nutrients added to it. However, I would suggest NOT feeding seafood based food all of the time. Fish isn't a natural food source for cats.

Re: tiki cat cat food
Sat, June 9, 2007 - 7:48 PMMy human has read a lot on tuna everything she has read says that a regular tuna diet is a no-no. First, it robs you cat's body of vitamin E. That can lead to a condition called Steatitis. Cats with steatitis become extremely nervous and then become supersensitive in all the nerve endings in the skin. It becomes painful for the cats to be touched in any way. Second, besides destroying vitamin E. tuna fish contains insoluble mineral salts that can form stones in the bladder and urinary tract. -

Sat, June 9, 2007 - 8:45 PMGreat, found a wet food they like and they can't eat it.. :(
Do other seafoods do the same thing as tuna? -

Re: tiki cat cat food
Sun, June 10, 2007 - 8:11 AMYes, that applies to other seafood also. Have you tried wellness? My cat Bonnie is REALLY finicky. The only canned food I could get her to eat was Wellness Chicken, and even that was iffy. The only non-kibble food I can get her to eat now is raw, which is better than canned (when done correctly) so I'm happy. -

Re: tiki cat cat food
Sun, June 10, 2007 - 8:19 AMI'm so disappointed that the tiki cat food isn't good for them. And the packaging is just so cute.. :(
I tried to just give them some ground raw chicken to see if they would eat it, they wouldn't. It will take some doing to get them to eat raw. Thanks for all your info, you are a wealth of info, thanks for being so informative and helping us not so informed. Thank you.

Re: tiki cat cat food
Sun, June 10, 2007 - 8:21 AMYou can still feed the tiki food, but do so sparingly, and it may benefit you to mix it into the new food so they are more inclined to eat it - slowly reducing the amount of tiki food mixed with the new food.

Re: tiki cat cat food
Sun, June 10, 2007 - 11:01 AMAll fish contains insoluble mineral salts, but tuna has the highest concentration. By the way we cats don't care how cute the cans are. My human has been trying to change my diet and was having a very hard time getting me to eat anything new. Until a couple of cat lovers here recommended Merrick cat food. Human grade holistic food with no grains made in the USA. I took to it right away and so far I like it.
