high quality cat food thrift

So, I've got myself signed up to post a thrifty tip elsewhere on the internet come Wednesday. I decided that I would address ideas on how to get the most high(er) quality cat food bang for the buck. Yeah, my starting point in my little essay is, "I've learned by hard experience that the less I spend on cat food, the more I spend at the vet," and I'm going to hit on the idea of how silly it is to spend our hard earned money on fillers when it means our cats have to eat more in order to get the bare minimum of that oh, so necessary protein. My big tip for saving money on the spendier brands such as Wellness and Innova is to buy the bigger 13oz. cans, asking the shop for a special order if need be, and dividing the cans up into single portions to be stored in fridge or freezer. I'm also going to mention that making homemade cat food can be even thriftier, and give links to That Woman's cat food guide website.

Any other thoughts that might be useful to add?

I notice a lot of brands make big cans of dog food but only small cans of cat food. I had the same plan once.

Yeah, some do, some don't. It is worth checking out your preferred brands' websites to see what sizes they make. And if your local pet food store caries that brand but not the size you want, request a special order. So far in my searches, Innova, Felidae, and Eagle Pack do make the 13oz cans.
